Pit 28 – New Test Pit at Little Millhams

On Saturday 20 April we started a new test pit, approximately 1 metre square, at Little Millhams – Pit 28. This was in the part of the garden north of the garden wall and 2 metres to the east of Pit 26. The purpose of this new test pit was to locate evidence for further revetment, or a ridge in the former land surface, which is indicated by the upward slopes on sediments in excavations on either side of the new pit. We also hope to find further traces of the domestic refuse which we found as an infilling behind the revetment in Pit 26.

The action shot of two of the team at work was taken by Stephanie Liney.
