Pit 28 Progress

We excavated Pit 28 to about a metre on Saturday 27 April. Under the layer of topsoil was a soil layer mixed with a a with stones which yielded a few later pottery sherds (say 16th century). This appeared to be dumped material overlaying the usual sandy silts. We augured down from the bottom of the pit for a further metre which showed a continuation of the silt layer with no signs of further revetment. We shall probably record and then close this pit without excavating to a deeper level.
