Pit 30 recorded

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe’ve just about finished Pit 30 by recording the structures revealed in the pit and drawing all of the faces. The plan-view photograph of the pit shows the end of the beam with the longitudinal mortise joint, in relation to the row of vertical stakes and the revetment on the east side of the pit (right hand side of the photograph). Sieving of the gravel extracted from the around the beam has revealed the usual collection of animal bones, pottery fragments and some metallic objects (usually nails but don’t forget the key featured in a previous post!)
