Our 2016 Digging Season at Millhams Starts

Map MakerWe have started our 2016 digging season at Millhams with a small group of us on site at the last two weekends.  We took the opportunity to resurvey the locations we had plotted for a series of pits further north on the site which had revealed, at the end of last season, interesting features of channels and gulleys in the ancient landscape of Millhams.  On Sunday we started a new pit (pit 48!) which yielded an interesting collection of medieval pottery fragments and oyster shell in some of the shallower layers, but probably re-deposited and not in context.  The plan of the site shows the current area of interest around the sequence of pits 42 to 47.
